Well what is going on in our little world.....

We made it thru our first week of school, and I have not taken any pictures of Averi. I know that is terrible, but I have been going bananas with my class. I have eleven two-year old's, and nine of them are screamers. I am so upset with this Hurricane situation, because its looking like we will not report back to school until next Friday. Know what that means, a week that my little two year old's have not been there. Basically starting all over again.
Averi went to the Doctor on Thursday to have a UTI ran and we are waiting for the results sometime this week. She is up to 15 pounds even..... My little trooper made eight months old on the 28th and can I tell you its so hard to believe. Its amazing how fast time fly's. She is saying Daddy, Bye-Bye, and Pop.... has not gotten the other half out of Poppie yet.

"BIG GIRL" School

Well yesterday was Averi's first day in Mother's Day Out. She did Excellent. I was not able to get any pictures when she got there because I was being run over by my parents about there child, so needles to say I will get there earlier on Wednesday and get some shots. This should explain how much fun she had:

I was giving her some applesauce and she feel right to sleep while I was feeding her. She was down and out by 7:30.

Back to the Half World

Well I started "working" this past week. I will be working at Mother's Day Out at St. Andrew's, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, teaching two year olds. I am very excited to be able to do this. I have always wanted to be able to interact with children and I just feel that God has a calling for me to do this. Averi will also start going. I have her in five days a week, however if I am not subbing I will most likely not bring her. I will also start keeping two other children before and after Mother's Day Out. That should be interesting. I will have a 6 month old, 8 month old and a 4 year old running around here. I can honestly say that I have more respect for teachers now then I have ever had. The work that I have had to do this past week to prepare, for just two year olds, is amazing!!!

Averi has an appointment for a UTI on August 28 to make sure that there is not bacteria growing and then an appointment on September 26 in New Orleans to see how the kidney looks. Please continue to pray for her kidney that the surgery was a GREAT success.

I will try to upload picture from the hospital, they are must sees........

A true thanks to Leigh Ann for helping me out this week with Averi, could not have done it with out her. I also want to thank everyone for all of the prayers that Averi has been receiving, Brad and I are true believers that they work. We are so blessed to have wonderful friends in our lives!

******Please pray for a co-worker of my mom's, doctors found a spot on her brain and she is going to have to go thru some surgery next week to remove it. Please pray for her and her family that God protects them thru this hard time*************

HOME

We made it home Friday night and I can say that we were all so happy. The removal of the stint went very well, however the removal of the central line was not pleasant. We will go to Dr. Guidroz in two weeks to have a UTI culture ran to make sure that Averi is cleared from the bacterias and then go in a month to see how the kidney is working.

I want to send out a HUGE thanks to Nonnie and Poppie for ALL of there help! I don't know how we would be able to do it if we did not have the help and support that they have given to us. I also want to thank Ounie for coming and helping Nonnie clean the house for Averi to come home to. We have to keep Averi away from all germs and illness that are going around.

Thanks for all the prayers that everyone has been doing for our family, very much appreciated!!! Please continue to pray that Averi does not have any side effects from the oral medicine that she is receiving right now. I will post pictures as soon as possible from our hospital stay.

PLANS..................

After Brad and I talked things thru we have decided to go with oral antibiotics. Brad and I feel more comfortable going with the oral being that the specialist came in and talked with us and she uses it a lot and has more to compare it to than others do.

Plans right now, Dr. Ortenburg came in yesterday, let us know that Averi’s 12 hour urine culture is normal, he stated that he knows that Averi’s cultures are a bit different she shows growth at 48 hours. He feels that there is no point in waiting to remove the stint being that she has had 16 rounds of antibiotic since Tuesday at noon. We are going down for surgery at noon today. Dr. Ortenburg stated that there is no point in making Averi any more miserable than she is up here, to try and get her in her own environment as soon as possible. If all goes well once the stint is out then we will be able to go home. Yes I am excited about that but we have strict rules that we have to follow. We have to take one step at a time and worry about one day at a time. Please pray today that all goes well in the surgery.

I think that I have remembered everything, those of you who have stayed in the hospital know that there is NOTHING fun about it, VACATION, please I think that I need some surgery done, especially after last night.

I hope that everyone has a blessed day and know that God is here as long as you ask him to be by your side

Our Little Trooper

This has been an interesting ride for us. We arrived on Monday at 3:00 p.m., thanks Nonnie for taking off and coming for help and support, by Dr. Ortenburg’s orders. After a terrible afternoon, trying to get an IV in to get the antibiotics going, we had no luck. Dr. Ortenburg decided Tuesday morning to go ahead and put Averi to sleep and find a central line so that the IV line would not blow being that the antibiotics that she is on are so strong. We went down to “surgery” around 10:30 am, after the procedure Dr. Ortenburg talked with Nonnie and me and decided to call in an Infection Specialist. Once we were able to see Averi, we were told that she was stuck three more times, (remember the night before no luck after eight times of trying to get an IV) two central lines one on each side of her chest, blew out! Our little trooper has bruises all over her body. After seeing the Infection Specialist, Brad and I have to make a huge decision on what to do about Averi receiving her antibiotic either by mouth or thru the central line at home. There are a large amount of side effects on either decision that we make. The oral antibiotic that Averi would receive is Levofloxacin. To be totally honest, I really don’t know which one I would rather see her on. It’s a very hard decision for us to make.
Averi had a UTI culture ran this morning, and plans are to wait and see what they show. We will be seeing the doctors this afternoon. I will try my hardest to update once we make a decision and after we talk with the doctors.

Back to the Hospital they go….

Dr. Ortenburg called yesterday with the test results from the test ran last week. Averi has 2 serious bacteria’s running through her little body, and Dr. Ortenburg asked that Kelli have Averi in New Orleans at the Children’s Hospital as soon as possible so they can start the IV for the antibiotics to fight the 2 bacteria’s. They had the IV specialist come in to try and give Averi her IV and they were unable to start the IV last night as hoped. They tried for about 4 hours to get an IV and decided to try again today. Once they get the IV in and start the meds Dr. Ortenburg is saying that the stay in the hospital will be about 7-10 days. They are hoping that once the meds are started that she will be healthy enough to have the stint removed on Friday.

Until we get an IV or an update from the Doctor,

Aunt Liz

What a Day........

Friday was a day that was not planned. Averi had a terrible night Thursday night, and I knew that something just was not right. Off to the doctor we went. Saw Dr. Guidroz at 8:45 am, at first I was told that she had a small drip and when she was leaving I asked her about the vitamin that Averi was taking and her urine smelling. Well needless to say they had nothing to do with each other. Averi had another infection. Well as a mother going thru seven long months of this I got very upset for Averi. Call Dr. Ortenburg and did not receive any answers so at 2:00pm we headed for New Orleans. Dr. Ortenburg saw us at 6:15pm and stated that Averi's body is getting an infection because of the stint. He ran another culture and sent us down for an X-Ray. Culture shows that she has a large amount of white blood cells along with a pretty bad infection. X-Ray showed that stint has made a 90 degree turn in the top of her kidney which was not put in like that. Dr. Ortenburg stated that it was time for the stint to be removed. The infection from the stint is not a common thing, has happened before to previous patients but on rare occasions. I am going to call in the morning to get the surgery moved up. Please, Please, Please pray that the surgery has worked and the swelling of the kidney has gone down. Once the stint is removed, an ultrasound will be ran, don't know how long Dr. Ortenburg will wait to do that, to see how the left kidney looks. Please continue to pray for a great report regarding the kidney.
Its so amazing how Averi responds to all of this, she is such an amazing little trooper. She try's so hard to always have a smile on her face! As a mom its so hard to see all of this going on but on the other hand Brad and I are so blessed to have such a wonderful, precious little girl!

Daddy and Averi to the Doctor

Yesterday Brad and Averi went and saw Dr. Brent Bankston, Orthopedic Surgeon. Dr. Bankston stated that we are going to keep an eye on Averi and see her back at the end of December. Brad on the other hand received a shot in his hip and depending on how long the shot lasts, will determine when and if surgery is needed.

Averi is doing good. The only time that she seems to really have any pain is at night. Talked with Dr. Ortenburg's nurse, Hope, she stated that it is most definitely the stint that is bothering her when she moves a certain way while she is sleeping. The stint will be removed on Thursday August 28, at Children's Hospital. Please continue to pray that the surgery has worked and once the stint is out that her body will take to everything the way that it is supposed to.
